Stroud District Council is committed to equality of opportunity for all people regardless of race, disability, sex, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief (including non-religious beliefs), gender re-assignment, marital status, and pregnancy and maternity. We recognise and value the diversity of the local community and believe that equality is central to the provision of modern quality services.
The Equality Act 2010 requires the council to publish equality information on the local community, those who use its services and on its staff. We hope you find the information here of interest. If you would like us to add any additional information please let us know.
As a Council we have worked extremely hard to reduce inequality, yet we know that some people still experience disadvantage and unfair treatment simply because of their personal characteristics or circumstances.
An annual action plan is set out each year to demonstrate how we intend to achieve our aims and objectives with regards to equality, diversity and inclusion. Progress against the action plans is published annually:
As a public body we must carry out equality impact assessments on all new policies, procedures, projects and services, to prevent unfair discrimination. These assessments are a method of assessing the effects or impacts of a council policy or function on removing barriers to equality.
