Non-Secure Tenancy

The Council may provide temporary accommodation to a household whilst considering their homelessness application. Where the temporary accommodation is within the Council’s own stock, the applicant will be issued a non-secure tenancy, which gives only limited rights to occupation.

A non secure tenancy may be brought to an end by the Council serving notice on the following grounds:

  • The Council no longer owes a duty under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996
  • The tenant fails to comply with or has broken any of the tenancy terms
  • The tenant has been offered suitable alternative accommodation
