Household Energy Payment

Only Stroud District Council should contact you about claiming the Household Energy Payment.

Be cautious of unexpected emails, text messages, telephone calls or social media messages asking for personal or banking information. If you are unsure whether a message is genuine, contact your local council directly before responding.

The Household Energy Payment is a one-off £100 payment from the Government to help eligible households with their energy costs.

The payment will be available to households in England that are in Council Tax Bands A to D and meet the eligibility criteria.

Payments are expected to be made from January 2027. Please do not attempt to contact the council to request the payment before this date

You may be eligible if:

  • You live in England.

  • The property is your main home.

  • You are liable for Council Tax at a property in Council Tax Bands A to D.

Most households that are exempt from paying Council Tax will also qualify. Full eligibility details will be published by the Government in due course.

You will not be eligible if:

  • The property is a second home.

  • The property is empty.

  • You are not responsible for paying the Council Tax bill.

If you pay by Direct Debit

You do not need to do anything. If you are eligible, the payment will be made directly into the bank account used for your Council Tax Direct Debit.

If you do not pay by Direct Debit

Stroud District Council will announce how to claim your payment ahead of the January 2027 application window opening. If you wish to set up a Direct Debit now to receive the payment automatically, please visit Change your Council Tax Payment Method | Payment method | MY SDC Account

We recognise that some households experiencing financial hardship may not qualify for the Household Energy Payment.

To help those residents, the Government is providing additional funding to local authorities to deliver discretionary support to households that are not eligible for the £100 payment.

You may also be eligible for other forms of assistance, including the Warm Home Discount Scheme. For more information, visit:

Information about local eligibility rules and application processes will be published on the council's website once arrangements have been confirmed.
