No change to your Easter waste and recycling collections

Published

There will be no change to Stroud District Council’s waste and recycling collections over the Easter holiday, so please put everything out as normal on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Please make sure your bins and containers are out by 6am on your collection day, and bring them back in as soon as you can, especially on windy days.

You can check your collection dates at any time by entering your postcode into the My House section on the SDC home page: www.stroud.gov.uk

Recycling Easter egg packaging

Easter is one of the busiest times of year for foil and cardboard, and most of it can be recycled at the kerbside. Once you’ve enjoyed your Easter treats, scrunch up the aluminium foil and pop it into your recycling bin or green bag.

Cardboard boxes, paper wrapping and greetings cards can all be recycled too - just remove any glitter, ribbons or plastic windows first. Very large pieces of cardboard should be cut or torn to the approximate size of your recycling box.

Reducing Easter food waste

Easter celebrations often mean more food waste than usual, but small, simple steps can really help:

• Plan your meals and portions before you shop
• Freeze anything you won’t use straight away – even chocolate can be frozen
• Turn leftovers into something new the next day
• Recycle any unavoidable food waste in your weekly kerbside food waste collection

For ideas on using up your Easter leftovers, visit the Love Food Hate Waste website: What to do with your Easter leftovers | Love Food Hate Waste

Don’t forget to recycle batteries and vapes

If you’re having a spring clean, remember that household batteries and disposable vapes can be recycled too. Please don’t put them in your normal bins - they’re a fire risk if crushed in collection vehicles.

You can recycle up to ten batteries and five vapes with your weekly waste and recycling service. Place them in separate, clear (preferably reused) plastic bags - such as old sandwich bags - on top of your grey food waste caddy. If it’s very hot or windy, please hold onto them for another week.

Garden waste subscriptions now open to all

Our garden waste subscription service is now available to every household in the district. A new collection vehicle means we can now reach narrow lanes and rural roads that were previously inaccessible. If you’d like convenient kerbside garden waste collections, you can sign up on the SDC website: Garden waste collection service

Residents in Gloucestershire can also buy a subsidised home compost bin made from recycled plastic. It’s a great way to turn kitchen and garden waste into nutrient‑rich compost for your own garden. Subsidised home compost bins are available at: https://www.gloucestershirerecycles.com/reduce/composting

Cllr Martin Pearcy, Chair of Stroud District Council’s Environment Committee, said:
“Easter is a lovely time of year, and it’s also a great opportunity to recycle more and waste less. Whether it’s Easter egg packaging, leftovers or garden clippings, a few small actions really add up. Thank you to everyone across the district for doing their bit - you’re helping us keep Stroud a clean, green place to live.”

Weather‑related guidance

On windy days, bins and containers can blow over easily, so please bring your bins, bags and boxes in as soon as possible. If you’re not at home, a neighbour may be able to help keep things secure.

Need a new bin, bag or box?

If your bin is damaged or missing, you can order a replacement. You can also arrange to pick up additional recycling containers or food caddies from the council offices. Order a new bin or container: Order a new bin or container
