New Local Plan 2026

Help shape the future of Stroud District

We are preparing a new Local Plan to guide how Stroud District grows over the next 15–20 years.

This is your opportunity to have your say at the very beginning and help shape the future of your local area.

The consultation is open for 6 weeks from Monday 29 June to Sunday 9 August 2026 11PM

Why we are asking for your views

We need to plan for the future, including:

  • Providing new homes
  • Supporting jobs and the local economy
  • Protecting the countryside and environment
  • Considering climate change
  • Making sure the right infrastructure is in place

We are also required by the Government to plan for at least 846 new homes per year, which presents real challenges for the District.

No decisions have been made at this stage.

What this consultation is about

This is an early (scoping) consultation.

We are asking for your views on:

  • The main priorities for the District
  • The key issues and challenges
  • The overall approach to future growth
  • Different ways growth could be distributed
  • Infrastructure and local services

Your feedback will help shape the next stage of the Local Plan.

Important information about sites

At this stage:

  • We are not consulting on specific sites
  • No decisions have been made about where development will go

We have published a map of sites that have been submitted for consideration.

Inclusion on the map does NOT mean a site will be developed or is suitable.
Many sites will not be taken forward.

The map is provided for context only, to help you understand what land may be available.

Viewing the questions in advance

A PDF version of the consultation questions is available to view beforehand:

This allows you to read the questions and prepare your responses before completing the online survey.

Why the consultation is online

The Government has introduced a digital-first approach to Local Plan consultations.

The online survey has been designed to:

  • make it easier to take part
  • ensure responses can be recorded and analysed efficiently
  • support a faster plan-making process

However, we recognise that this may not work for everyone, and support is available if you need it.

Need help taking part?

We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to take part in this consultation.

If you are finding the online form difficult to use or would prefer to respond in a different way, please contact us:

We will be happy to help.
