Insects treatment

When making a booking for insect treatment you are authorising Stroud District Council to carry out the treatment and/or destruction of pests on the above premises. Please let us know well in advance if you are unable to keep your appointment. If you fail to keep an appointment or give less than one working days’ notice you may be charged for the full cost of the treatment.

You will receive a visit from one of the Council’s Pest Control Officers. The following information will help to clear up the infestation and prevent it happening again. The pest control officer will have used a spray, gel or bait containing insecticide and this must not be touched. If you follow the advice below after the infestation has been cleared you will greatly reduce the chances of the problem returning.

After the treatment

• Keep children and pets away from treated areas until the insecticide is dry.
• Ventilate spray treated areas until they are dry.
• Do not vacuum or clean spray treated areas for two weeks after spraying. If you do, you will remove all the insecticide and any insects which are still eggs will not come into contact with any insecticide when they hatch. The longer you leave the area without vacuuming the greater the chance that treatment will be successful.
• Cracks and crevices should be filled and kept to a minimum.
• Keep food in lidded containers. Spillages of food should be cleaned up immediately.
• Vacuum sprayed carpets regularly and clean fabrics often as clean fabrics are a less acceptable diet for clothes moths to dirty ones.

Safety advice

Avoid touching sprayed insecticide when it is still wet and leave gels or baits alone. In the event of accidental contact:-

• Wash off skin immediately, remove contaminated clothing
• Eyes – rinse at least 15 minutes, seek medical advice
• Ingestion – rinse mouth, seek medical advice
• Inhalation – more than incidental move to fresh air, keep warm, blow nose, seek medical advice
