A new government consultation has opened on how local government in Gloucestershire could be organised in future. Three proposals have been submitted by the county’s councils, ranging from creating one countywide unitary council to forming two new unitary councils serving different areas.
Residents, businesses and community groups are encouraged to share their views over the next seven weeks. The feedback will help the government decide which option best meets its criteria for delivering effective, efficient and sustainable local services. The consultation on Active Lifestyles Stroud and Stratford Park ends on February 13 – visit www.stroud.gov.uk/consultations/ to have your say.
Stroud District Council Tenant Relationship Manager Michelle Elliott’s dedication and resilience to support our council tenants was recognised with an invitation to a Royal reception at St James’s Palace. She has supported the resettlement of Afghan, Syrian and Ukrainian families fleeing conflict, advocated for survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence and anti-social behaviour, and championed safeguarding across the service. And she has helped shape the council’s award-winning pet-friendly policies – recognising the importance of pets to people’s wellbeing.
A by-election for the Thrupp ward on Stroud District Council takes place on 5 March. Poll cards are being sent out - you may need to renew your postal vote. If you applied to vote by post on or before 30 January 2024, your postal vote expired on 31 January 2026.
