Weekly blog - w/c 16 February 2026

Published

It’s half term across the district and we know many families are looking for ideas to keep children and young people entertained. We’ve compiled a list of thirty things to do in the Stroud district for all ages, all weathers and all budgets. From pancake making to inflatable pool sessions, there’s plenty to explore.

A by-election will take place in Thrupp ward on Thursday 5 March to elect a district councillor. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm, but if you’re unable to vote in person, you can still take part by applying for a postal vote. The deadline for postal vote applications is 5pm on 18 February. Alternatively you can vote by proxy, where someone you trust votes in person on your behalf. The deadline for proxy applications is 25 February. See www.stroud.gov.uk/elections for more details.

This week also includes a meeting of Full Council where the budget for the year ahead will be set. Council tax is collected by Stroud District Council but most of it is passed on to Gloucestershire County Council, the fire and rescue service, and town and parish councils. The portion that remains with Stroud District Council for our services will rise by 14 pence a week for a Band D property.

Looking ahead, local government in Gloucestershire is expected to change in just over two years, with county and district authorities due to merge into one or two larger organisations. This process is being led by the government, and a public consultation is under way. Please do take the time to share your views. Details are available on www.futuregloucestershire.org.uk
