Stroud Funding: these community projects are set to transform local areas - here’s how you can help

STROUD FUNDING

Stroud District Council has released the latest round of projects through its popular crowdfunding programme, Stroud Funding.

Since its launch in 2024, Stroud Funding has helped bring community ideas to life, with 28 projects raising more than £443,000 from 2,688 backers.

Now, the Autumn 2025 round introduces a new collection of initiatives designed to improve neighbourhoods and strengthen community connections. From replacing the boiler at Stroud’s Sub Rooms to supporting a surplus food project in Cam and creating nature activities for people with additional needs, there’s something for everyone to support.

How it works

Stroud Funding enables local people to raise money for projects that matter to them, with the chance to receive a pledge from the council once strong community backing is demonstrated.

Projects must align with the Council Plan priorities: Environment, Communities and Wellbeing, Local Economy or Housing.

Each project has its own page on the Stroud Funding platform where supporters can explore details, view budgets, see photos, and follow progress. Contributions aren’t limited to money - residents can also offer time, skills, or resources to help make these ideas a reality.

This round continues the council’s partnership with Spacehive, the UK’s leading civic crowdfunding platform, which has supported over 2,000 projects nationwide, raising more than £30 million.

Cllr Martin Brown, Chair of the Community Services and Licensing Committee, said:

“The success of previous Stroud Funding rounds shows the creativity and commitment within our communities. We’re delighted to support another wave of projects and encourage everyone to get involved - whether by pledging, volunteering, or spreading the word.”

People are invited to explore the new projects and discover how they can help shape the future of their neighbourhoods.

Autumn 2025 projects include:

It will collect and upcycle surplus clothing, host community workshops, and launch an online marketplace - aiming to divert 50 tonnes of textiles from landfill and promote sustainable fashion.

Breaking the Sound Barrier - Frith Community Centre Installing acoustic panels at Frith Youth Centre to reduce echo and noise, making the space more inclusive and welcoming for youth sessions, café visitors, and community activities.

Dursley Heritage Escape Room Project Creating an escape room at the Chantry Centre that celebrates Dursley’s heritage and Lister Petter’s legacy. This interactive attraction will boost tourism, provide volunteering opportunities, and strengthen community ties.

Inclusive Education for LGBTQIA+ Support Developing inclusive educational resources and activities to support LGBTQIA+ young people and promote equality, ensuring schools and community spaces are welcoming for all.

Step Into Stroud - Free Community Walks Launching guided walks and creative outdoor experiences to encourage physical activity, social connection, and appreciation of Stroud’s natural beauty - all free for the community.

The Sub Rooms: Boiler Appeal Project Replacing an outdated boiler at The Sub Rooms to ensure this iconic arts venue remains warm, welcoming, and energy-efficient for performances, workshops, and community events.

Little Acorns, Mighty Oaks - Stroud Valleys Project A nature-based initiative to engage children and families in outdoor learning and conservation, planting trees and creating habitats to boost biodiversity and inspire future generations.

Misha Dhanak, CEO Spacehive said:

“Stroud is full of people with brilliant, innovative ideas, and now is a chance to turn those ideas into reality. We’re supporting projects that can make a real difference locally and look forward to seeing the community get behind them.”
