Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycling after it’s picked up?
Stroud District Council is celebrating Recycle Week by releasing a behind-the-scenes film that follows the recycling journey from kerbside collection to specialist processing facilities.
The film opens with the question: “Think recycling is just a load of rubbish?” - and goes on to show how your carefully sorted items are collected by our hard-working waste and recycling crews, taken to our transfer station in Gossington, and then transported to specialist facilities where they’re turned into new materials.
From paper and card being shredded and recycled into new products, to tins, cans and bottles being reprocessed, the film shows residents that their efforts really do make a difference.
“We hope people enjoy seeing what happens to their recycling once it’s picked up. It’s a great way to show the care and effort that goes into making sure your recycling is properly processed.” said Cllr Martin Pearcy, Chair of the Environment Committee.
“Increasing recycling rates is a key action in the Council Plan, and we’re grateful to everyone who plays their part. Please keep recycling everything you can - and if you’re unsure about an item, check the Waste Wizard on our website.”
The film includes tips from the crews to help make collections smoother:
- Rinse food containers - it keeps your bin and the recycling fresh
- Fold or cut cardboard to the size of your recycling box - the smaller it is, the more we can fit in the truck
- Put bins out by 6am on collection day.
