Repair plan to be considered in bid to open Stratford Park Lido to swimmers this summer
Councillors are set to consider a repair and maintenance plan as soon as possible to give Stratford Park Lido the best chance of opening to swimmers this summer.
An extraordinary meeting of Stroud District Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee has been called to decide whether to approve spending more than the £200,000 already allocated on the 90-year-old facility in Stroud.
“We understand the depth of feeling for the Lido and what it means to the community,” said committee chair and Council Leader Chloe Turner. “We have already committed to spend up to £200,000 on revenue repair and maintenance works but if those works will cost more than that, we will need to meet formally to consider this carefully.
“I am grateful to council staff and members of the Lido Working Group for making all efforts to get swimmers safely into the Lido waters this summer.”
The next scheduled Strategy and Resources Committee is on 18 June 2026 but because of the time-critical nature of the project, an extraordinary meeting of the committee will be held on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. The agenda and papers for this meeting will be published on Tuesday 26 May and can be viewed online.
The Council’s constitution does not allow for motions, public or councillor questions at an extraordinary meeting. Members of the public will be welcome as usual to observe elected councillors discuss the agenda item, either in-person at the council’s Ebley Mill headquarters, or via an online video link.
A costed plan will be published with the committee papers on Tuesday 26 May 2026.
