Stroud District Council has announced a second round of Climate and Nature Small Grants, offering even more support for local organisations working to tackle climate change and restore nature across the district.
Constituted community groups, parish and town councils, and not-for-profit organisations can now apply for grants of up to £2,000 to support projects that:
- Help local communities adapt to climate change
- Encourage behaviour change among people with higher carbon footprints
- Support nature recovery and biodiversity
Applications are open until midday on Wednesday 10 July 2025 and can be submitted in a variety of formats – including written, spoken or illustrated documents – to make the process as accessible as possible.
Cllr Tricia Watson, Vice Chair of Stroud District Council’s Environment Committee, said:
“Supporting local action on climate change and nature recovery is a key priority for us. These small grants are a practical way to empower communities to make a difference.
“Our Council Plan outlines our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions and restoring biodiversity across the district. These grants not only help bring that vision to life but also recognise and celebrate the vital work being done by local groups to protect our environment.
To apply, organisations must be constituted and operate within Stroud district; have an active bank account in the organisation’s name; be able to provide interim evidence by October 2025 and a final report by March 2026; and show how the funding will be used and how the project outcomes will be sustained.
Projects must also demonstrate how they will share their results with Stroud District Council by March 2026, and outline the number of people or size of area impacted.
There were 18 applicants in the first round, with a good spread across the district – including projects based in Berkeley, Newmarket, Upton St Leonards and Wotton-under-Edge. They included an inspiring selection of activities, including connecting people with nature, improving biodiversity, supporting sustainable building, contributing to renewable energy, and helping people make simple switches to reduce their environmental impact.
Organisations that received a Climate and Nature Small Grant earlier in 2025 are not eligible to apply again.
Applications should be submitted via email to climate@stroud.gov.uk by the deadline.
This funding forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to making the Stroud district more resilient to climate change and supporting grassroots action to protect and enhance the natural environment.
