Summer is always a busy time across Stroud district, and it’s been brilliant to see so many residents taking part in our community events, consultations and local initiatives.
One of the most important conversations beginning this year is on our new Local Plan, which will guide how the district develops over the coming decades. It will influence where homes are built, how we support local jobs, protect the environment and strengthen communities. Government sets the number of new homes we must plan for: around 12,700 over 15 years, a very challenging target. But we do have some say over where that development happens and what it looks like, and early consultation on the principles we’ll work to is now underway. The Local Plan belongs to all of us, and the more people who participate, the better the final result will be.
We are also seeking views on extending Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs), intended to tackle issues such as street drinking and irresponsible dog control. The aim is to protect enjoyment of public spaces while making sure any measures reflect local needs and priorities. Your feedback will help us get the right balance here too.
Alongside these consultations, we continue to support initiatives that make a difference to our communities. Last week we were proud to support the local Armed Forces Day celebrations held at Stratford Park, recognising the service and sacrifice of current and former members of the armed forces. We also marked Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week, highlighting the importance of partnership working to make communities safer and more welcoming.
Finally, as schools break up for summer, the Holiday Activities and Food programme will again provide opportunities for families to access activities and support during the holidays. If you have not used the system before, search ‘HAF Gloucestershire’ to explore what’s on offer.
