Leader's blog - w/c 3 February 2025

“Our housing committee meeting on Tuesday 4th February will seek to approve the Council Plan as part of the process for approval by the Council.  The housing theme, included for the first time as a separate theme in the Council Plan has 3 aims: deliver additional affordable homes; improve the quality of homes in Stroud district and increase the availability of housing in the district.

I am pleased to report that since our last meeting we have signed the contract for the delivery of forty-four homes in our district as part of our wider plan to build nearly 100 homes over the period of the plan.  These homes in Wotton under Edge, Dursley and Cam will provide much needed high quality and energy efficiency homes for residents of our district.  At a time when many councils are having to sell houses to balance their books this a major achievement of Stroud District Council.  These homes will put us in the top twenty council house builders in England and in the top 5 district councils.

As well as the Council Plan we have a number of policies for debate and approval.  The Landlord Service Anti-Social Behaviour policy ensures that that people are protected and enables us to act in the rare instances when our tenants behave in an anti-social way. Our Tenancy and Estate Management policy ensure that tenants can live in a secure, clean and safe environment.  Our Repairs and Planned Maintenance policy details what services are available and where responsibilities for repairs lie. Finally, our Leasehold and Management Policy sets out the rights and responsibilities of lease holders.

The committee meeting is at Ebley Mill from 7 pm and can be watched live on our YouTube channel.”
