Leader's blog w/c 22 December 2022
“Firstly, a quick reminder of recycling and waste collection changes over the Christmas period: your collection only changes if it would fall on Christmas Day (becomes Monday 22nd December), Boxing Day (becomes Monday 29th December) or New Year’s Day (becomes Monday 5th January). There is some helpful Christmas recycling advice on our website. Wrapping paper can be recycled as long as it’s not glittered, and it passes the ‘scrunch’ test (holds its shape when scrunched rather than springing back).
Except core services, the council will shut down on Christmas Eve at 1pm, fully reopening on Monday January 5th. In an emergency, please call 01453 222104. Many council services can still be accessed online at MyHouse on our website
As usual, the Museum in the Park has closed for its annual deep cleaning, until 24th January 2026. Our Active Lifestyles leisure centres in Stroud and Dursley will be operating different timetables until Sunday 4th January and will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. More detailed information is on their websites.
We’re proud to support the Longfield Community Hospice real Christmas tree collection service again this festive season, in partnership with Just Helping. The booking system is now open until midnight on 6 January. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the collection – driving a van or helping collect the trees - for one or more of the days, contact christmas.trees@longfield.org.uk. It’s a fun and rewarding day.
Recognising that Christmas can be a difficult time for some, there are helpful resources available from the mental health charity Mind
Finally, wishing you and yours a very happy and festive Christmas, and a big thank you to our staff teams and all of the Council’s many partners for everything we have achieved together in 2025.”
Cllr Chloe Turner, leader of Stroud District Council
