"New Year, New Job?
Now that we are past Christmas, and spring is on the horizon, there's something within us that starts seeking new opportunities. We reflect on our career, our work/life balance, and what we can do in our communities. If you have that same feeling, then you'll be interested in the council's recruitment drive for new staff!
We've got eight jobs available at the moment, across our communities and housing teams. The council was recently shortlisted as "best place to work" and staff are proud of the jobs they do and the organisation they work for.
Two jobs are available aso Community Wardens. These are varied and interesting roles, using asset-based community development approach to support and strengthen communities across the district. You'll build a network of community groups, events, and relationships to create safer and stronger communities. People always speak highly of the Community Wardens and they're often not only the "eyes and ears" of the council, but also the mouth and hands: speaking to people and getting things done!
So if you're interested in a new job, have a look at the jobs page on the SDC website
Recycling electronics, vapes and batteries
One of the biggest jobs for our council is collecting waste and recycling. SDC has long had one of the best rates of recycling rates in the country, but we are always on the hunt to do better and be greener.
Recently we hosted a recycling box at Ebley Mill where people could safely dispose of electrical items. That trial has now finished, and the fact that the box filled so quickly shows how much people want to properly recycle their electronic items.
You can find out the best way of recycling any item by using our Waste Wizard It's easy to use. You just pop your postcode in and the item you want to recycle, and it tells you what to do. For example when I put "batteries", it shows me the closest supermarkets that are running battery recycling schemes, which is easier and closer than the recycling centre for most people.
There will be further announcements about recycling soon, if you want to be the first to know then sign up to the Council's email list."
