Looking for ways to keep the children active, creative or outdoors this Easter? Here’s a round-up of brilliant things to do across the Stroud district, from trails and trampolines to castles, crafts and canal adventures, many of which are free or low cost.

Active Lifestyles Stroud has a full programme of Easter fun, including high-energy trampolining sessions for 5–7s and 8–10s, Monster High and Zootropolis themed dance workshops for 4–9s, a family-friendly roller skating disco, a free Easter Egg Hunt around Stratford Park, junior gym sessions for 11–16s, bouncy castle and soft play for under 8s, Lets Play Fun Days featuring swimming, crafts, laser tag and multi sports, and beginner intensive swimming lessons for 4–7 year olds.

Active Lifestyles Dursley is offering a spring party with games, soft play, a bouncy castle and disco for 4–8s, plus dance workshops, a full day Swim Clinic with Spin and Pilates for Stage 6+, daily junior gym sessions throughout the holidays, a 5 day beginner swimming course for 4–7s focusing on Stage 1 and 2, and Easter themed crafts followed by soft play and bouncy castle fun for 4–8 year olds. Museum in the Park

The Museum in the Park has a brilliant programme of free trails, workshops and family activities running throughout the Easter break, as well as more than 4,000 exhibits telling the story of the Stroud district. It will be open over the Easter weekend too, including Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 11am-4.30pm. Usual opening times are 10am-4.30pm.

Signs Of Spring Family Explorer Trail - A seasonal trail guided by toy rabbits, helping families discover how people in the past celebrated Spring and Easter. Sticker reward included.

Museum Explorer Trails - Pick up a themed trail at reception and explore fossils, toys, dinosaur bones and Stroud’s history together.

Buzz Club in The Walled Garden - A relaxed outdoor session creating a living diary of the Walled Garden as it celebrates its 10th birthday.

Easter Cards And Crafts Drop In - Make Spring or Easter themed cards, decorations or mini baskets. Suggested £1 donation.

Zine Team! Children And Grown Ups Workshop - Create a giant collaborative zine using monoprint, stamps and collage. Drop in and return to see the finished zine. £2 per child.

Springtime Drop In Family Activity - Make sun catchers, woolly lambs, blossom prints and more. Includes sensory play for little ones. £1 per child.

Springtime Relaxed Session - A quieter, pre booked version of the Springtime activity session for families who need a calmer environment. £1 per child.

Spring Ribbon Wands Drop In - Craft a colourful paper ribbon wand to celebrate Spring. Suggested £1 donation.

Pop In And Print: Mono Printing Workshop - Have a go at simple mono printing inspired by the museum and gardens. Recommended old clothes. Suggested £1 donation.

Take the bus to somewhere new

Hop on a scenic bus route and explore a village, market town or common you haven’t visited before. It’s a simple adventure that kids love, especially when paired with a picnic or café stop.

Take a train trip

Turn a short journey into an outing by walking to Stonehouse or Stroud along the canal towpath and catching the train home. Gloucester Cathedral has a free spring trail and drop-in Easter activities or take a spin on the Observation Wheel in Cheltenham’s Imperial Gardens.

Find hidden treasure

Go on a real-life treasure hunt with geocaching. All you need is the free app on your phone to track down cleverly hidden `caches’ in parks, woods and footpaths. Each one is different, but you’ll usually find a tiny logbook to sign and small swap-items. Take something, leave something and join in the fun for the next explorer. There are hundreds of caches across the Stroud district, and Cam Parish Council has recently added new ones to discover, making it an even better excuse to get outside and explore somewhere new. Spot something wild and wonderful on your Easter adventures? Snap a photo and enter Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s annual photography competition. Practice your pooch skills for the Teckels Spring Dog Show

Spend the Easter holiday getting your four-legged friend ready for a fun day out at the Teckels Spring Fair and Dog Show on Sunday 19 April, 11a-3pm at The Rest, Kings Stanley. Expect stalls to browse, tasty refreshments, children’s games, a raffle, pet show and plenty more to keep the whole family entertained.
