scam warning

People with home care monitoring systems like Careline are being warned about scam phone calls asking for payment.

Stroud District Council, which installs Careline units, has received reports from several residents who have received fraudulent calls.

Cllr Catherine Braun, Leader of Stroud District Council said:

"Unfortunately, this is a common issue nationwide. Scammers call people, engage them in conversation, and try to gather enough information to impersonate their suppliers.

If you receive an unsolicited call about your Careline system, do not provide any information or make a payment. End the call and contact the council on 01453 766321. "

If you have received a scam call your phone provider can help trace and block the number. Text the free number 7726 with the word `call' followed by the scam caller's number.

If you have lost money due to a scan call, report it to Action Fraud online https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/report or by calling 0300 123 2040.
