Members of SDC's Charities group visit the Hope for Tomorrow HQ in Stonehouse
Hope for Tomorrow, a Stonehouse-based charity, has been selected by Stroud District Council’s staff and councillors as their charity of the year for 2025-26.
The charity builds and provides mobile cancer care units for NHS trusts across England, enabling cancer patients to access cancer care in their local community.
Charities group chairs Rachael Lythgoe and Louisa Sanderson said:
“With nearly one in two people being diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime Hope for Tomorrow does a fantastic job making people’s lives a little easier during difficult times.
“We’re looking forward to finding imaginative ways to raise funds for such a worthwhile local charity this year.”
Hope for Tomorrow CEO, Tina Seymour said:
“I am delighted that SDC have chosen Hope for Tomorrow as their Charity of the Year. Their support will help us continue our essential services via our mobile cancer care unit in Stroud every week. Our Gloucestershire unit “Helen” visits Stroud every Thursday and saves patients having to travel to Cheltenham and Gloucester for their treatment, allowing them to get on with their lives.
“Thank you to all the staff who voted for us, as we are based in Stonehouse and within the district, it is wonderful to have local support like this.”
Each year the council’s charities team invites staff and councillors to nominate and vote for a local charity to support. This year, 17 charities were nominated, with Hope for Tomorrow winning the overall vote.
Last year’s charity of the year was Longfield Trust. The charities team organised several events, including a family fun day at the Longfield headquarters in Burleigh, near Minchinhampton, participation in the Longfield Run the Rainbow event, and bake sales, raising a total of £2,357.
