Falls Detector information

A wrist worn Falls Detector

Wrist Worn Fall Detector

Key Features

  • Portable alarm trigger device
  • Water resistant – suitable for showering and bathing
  • Emergency alarm button

How It Works

Worn on the wrist, the fall detector monitors for:

  • A change in acceleration associated with trips or stumbles
  • A subsequent impact consistent with a fall
  • A period of lack of movement afterwards

If these conditions are met, the device automatically raises an alert. This may make it unsuitable for those with an active lifestyle.

The fall detector also includes a manual alarm button, which the wearer can press at any time if they need help. Alarm calls can be made from anywhere in or around the home.

Wearing the Device

To help reduce false alarms:

  • Wear the fall detector on the least dominant wrist
    • Right‑handed users: wear on the left wrist
    • Left‑handed users: wear on the right wrist
  • Wear the fall detector continuously for the first several days.
This allows the device to learn your individual movement patterns so the algorithm can adjust and operate more accurately.

Testing & Cleaning

  • Test monthly to ensure it is working correctly
  • Clean using a damp cloth
  • Do not use solvents or harsh cleaning fluids

Important Information About Fall Detection

Due to the complex nature of falls, no fall detector can automatically detect every type of fall.

Users should be advised that:

  • If they need help and are able to press the button, they must press the button on the fall detector.
  • The device is designed to detect significant falls from standing or raised positions, followed by an impact and a period of no movement.
  • If the user gets up or sits up quickly, the device may not raise an automatic alarm.
  • Some types of falls may not be detected at all.

In all cases, the wearer can always summon assistance by pressing the help button on the fall detector.
