Voter registration deadline only a few days away

With the EU Referendum taking place on Thursday 23 June, Stroud District Council is urging residents to make sure that they are ready to cast their votes. Whilst polling cards have already been sent to almost 90,000 of the district’s registered voters, along with 15,300 postal voting packs, the council is keen to ensure that anyone who may wish to vote or would like to take up the postal voting option does not miss out.
The deadline for registering to vote is next week on Tuesday 7 June. Anyone who isn’t registered can sign up online at gov.uk/register-to-vote or call the Stroud District Council elections office, during office hours, on 01453 754886. If you are away on polling day the deadline to request a postal vote application, or to amend a postal vote, is 5pm on Wednesday 8 June.
Hannah Emery, Stroud District Council’s elections manager said:
"If you are already registered to vote you do not need to register again for the referendum although if you have just moved into the district or moved house since the May elections you should update your details by Tuesday 7 June.”
The deadline to apply for a proxy vote, (having someone place a vote on your behalf) is a week later, at 5pm on Wednesday 15 June. Forms can be downloaded from stroud.gov.uk/elections or be obtained by calling the elections office.
Anyone who is unsure if they are registered to vote should call the elections team on 01453 754886 or email elections@stroud.gov.uk
