A council tenant who assaulted a Stroud District Council officer has been jailed for six weeks.
Mark Jonathan Peto, of Woodview Road, Cam pushed the officer over, when the officer was in the course of their work on June 16, 2022.
That was in breach of an earlier injunction, and consequently he was sentenced to 42 days imprisonment.
“SDC has acted fairly and reasonably in its approaches to Mr Peto over a number of months and years. SDC will not however tolerate any kind of abuse towards council staff,” said Keith Gerrard, Stroud District Council Strategic Director of Communities, after the court hearing.
“All council employees have a lawful right to carry out their duties without fear or harm or violence towards them.”
A district judge sitting at Gloucester County Court issued a statement following sentencing: “On 16 June 2022 Mark Jonathan PETO assaulted an employee of Stroud District Council acting in the course of his employment by pushing him from behind causing the employee to fall over onto some boxes. This assault was in breach of the injunction order dated 26 May 2022 personally served on the Defendant on 27 May 2022. The sentence is 42 days imprisonment minus 1 day already served on remand.”
