Statement: Black Lives Matter

Published: Tuesday, 9 June, 2020

Stroud District Council’s political group leaders have issued a joint statement on Black Lives Matter.

"Stroud District Council condemns all forms of racism across the world following the appalling death of George Floyd.

"In supporting Black Lives Matter, we recognise the historic and institutional injustice experienced by BAME people across the world, including in our own communities, and reaffirm our commitment to promoting equality and tackling discrimination.

"We appreciate the strength of feeling and people wishing to protest, but we urge everyone to maintain social distancing and keep themselves as safe as possible.”

Councillors Doina Cornell (Labour), Martin Whiteside (Green), Ken Tucker (Liberal Democrat), and Stephen Davies (Conservative)
