Stroud District Council’s apprentice, Lucy Hanman, was named Outstanding Apprentice of the Year for Public Services at Thursday night’s GloucestershireLive Apprenticeship Awards 2021 ceremony.
Lucy, who works in Tenant Services, is one of eight apprentices being hosted by SDC.
She says it has been a valuable experience and would recommend it to others:
“I always say the best kind of apprentices are the ones which never stop learning, and this was very true in my case. I’ve been able to develop professional and personal skills as a result of my apprenticeship, and my confidence levels have increased enormously.
“With these new skills I would like to continue putting the message out there that apprenticeships can be really rewarding for anyone interested in a particular career pathway.”
Another apprentice from Stroud District Council, Connor Ward, was also named as a finalist in the category of Outstanding Apprentice of the Year for Public Services.
Lucy Powell, Head of HR, says the council’s apprentices are a shining example of what young people can achieve:
“The last two years have been incredibly hard for many young people.
“Lucy and all of our apprentices at Stroud District Council demonstrate just what young people are capable of and what they can achieve given the right support. We are very proud of them.”
Council Leader Doina Cornell, says our apprentices are a crucial part of the workforce:
“Congratulations to Lucy and Connor – Stroud District Council is committed to playing our part in giving young people a good start in the world of work, our apprentices add such great value to the work the council does, and help build a workforce which delivers excellent services for our residents and businesses.”
Lucy now goes onto the Regional Apprenticeship Awards next week as a South West finalist and we wish her the very best of luck!
