On your marks, get set to book free-of-charge children’s summer holiday activities

Published: Friday, 30 June, 2023

Summer holiday activities for children who live in the Stroud district will be available to book from mid-day on 5 July.

Whatever your child’s interests and wherever you live there will be something for everyone - from sport, dance and drama to music, craft, and a whole host of other activities during four weeks of the school summer holiday from 26 July to 1 September.

Some of the activities will be reserved for children from reception to year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals (the Holiday Activity and Food programme, or HAF).

Stroud District Council will be co-ordinating the activities for children in the Stroud district, working closely with community groups, the voluntary sector, Gloucestershire County Council, and district councils across the county.

The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme is designed to make sure children and young people who receive free school meals are entertained, active, educated, safe and fed during the school summer holiday and is funded by the Department for Education.

Other activities will be available for all children and young people (Holiday Activities Programme, or HAP, formerly known as COMF) which is funded by Gloucestershire County Council.

Last year Stroud District Council partners delivered more than 40 different summer holiday activities and over 1400 children attended.

Cllr Beki Aldam, Chair of Stroud District Council Community Services and Licensing Committee said:

“Keeping children entertained during the summer holiday is difficult for many parents, particularly during the ongoing Cost of Living Crisis. Our holiday activities will give children in the Stroud district access to a host of fun, healthy activities, whatever their background or life situation.”

Cllr Trevor Hall, Vice Chair added:

“The Holiday Activity programme supports the Council Plan to embed equality, diversity and inclusion across the district, with targeted support for those who experience the most disadvantage in our communities.”

Summer holiday activities can be booked at www.strouddistricthaf.co.uk

Not all the activities will be available to book immediately, and new activities will be added throughout the coming weeks.

Keep up to date with the holiday activity programme by following the Stroud District Council HAF page on Facebook and Instagram.
