Make sure you’re ready to votePublished: Thursday, 23 March, 2017
With Gloucestershire County Council elections taking place on Thursday 4 May, Stroud District Council is urging residents to make sure that they are ready to cast their votes. Whilst 93,000 polling cards will be dispatched to the district’s registered voters over the next week, the council is keen to ensure that anyone entitled to vote does not miss out.
If you have just moved into the district or moved house within the district, please do remember to register. It is not too late.
The deadline for registering to vote is Thursday 13 April. Residents can request a registration form by contacting the Stroud District Council elections office either by email at email@example.com or by calling 01453 754886 during office hours. Residents can also print off a registration form at www.stroud.gov.uk/elections
The deadline for postal vote applications, or to amend a postal vote, is 5pm on Tuesday 18 April. This is directly after a bank holiday weekend, so application forms must be returned as soon as possible to ensure the deadline is not missed.
The deadline to apply for a proxy vote, ie having someone place a vote on your behalf, is a week later, on 5pm Tuesday 25 April. Forms can be downloaded from www.stroud.gov.uk/elections or be obtained by calling the elections office.
All 10 county divisions within the Stroud district are up for election this year, and the list of candidates standing in local elections will be published next week on Wednesday 5 April.
Anyone interested in standing in the May elections and would like to request a nomination pack should email the Stroud District Council elections team on firstname.lastname@example.org, or call during office hours on 01453 754886. Completed nomination packs must be returned between Monday 27 March and 4pm on Tuesday 4 April.
