Major council building project in Leonard Stanley is complete in time for Christmas

Work by Stroud District Council to build 51 new homes in Mankley Road, Leonard Stanley has now finished, and all the homes will be occupied in time for Christmas.
The scheme is a mix of council homes and shared ownership properties on a site previously occupied by prefabricated concrete homes that had reached the end of their useful lives.
Cllr Steve Lydon, leader of Stroud District Council and a district councillor for the Stanleys said:
“The new properties are a mix of one bedroom flats and two, three and four bedroom houses and are well designed and energy efficient.
A number of families who lived here before have returned to new homes, and now the scheme is finished it will make a very positive impact on the Leonard Stanley community.”
Matthew Allen and Sarah Mayo moved into a two bedroom home with their 19 month year old daughter Courtney in October after being made homeless in August.
Sarah said:
“I love it here. It’s a nice area, the house warms up really quickly and Courtney has made friends with our neighbours’ children. I can see us living here for many years to come.”
Cllr Mattie Ross, chair of the council’s housing committee said:
“We are investing £19.5 million in a five-year programme to deliver over 200 new homes by March 2018.
We are proud that Stroud District Council is the only local authority in Gloucestershire which still owns and manages council houses, with the others having transferred them into other social housing organisations.”
The keys to the first council homes to be built in over 30 years in the district as part of the programme were handed over to residents in Minchinhampton just before Christmas 2014 and schemes have now been completed in Leonard Stanley, Littlecombe, Stroud, Cam and Berkeley.
