Charities in the Stroud district have raised more than £48,000 over the last year, thanks to Stroud District Council’s Lucky Severn Community Lottery.
This Saturday’s draw marks the first anniversary of the weekly online lottery, which raises much-needed funds for community groups and charities based in the Stroud district.
Seventy-nine organisations including Teckels Animal Sanctuary, Stroud Women’s Refuge, Cotswold Canals Trust and Sunflowers Suicide Support are among the 79 good causes to benefit from the lottery.
Players have a 50 to one chance of winning a prize, which range from a £25,000 jackpot to three extra tickets while good causes receive 50p of every £1 ticket their supporters buy, with a further 10p going to a central good causes fund.
Aimee-Louise Malcolm, Fundraiser-Ambassador at the Cotswold Canals Trust said:
“Lucky Severn Lottery is a great initiative by Stroud District Council to help small charities reach new audiences. Our players have had lots of winners, including one of the top cash prizes, winning thousands of pounds. Happy Birthday Lucky Severn and thank you to everyone who has chosen to play.”
Stroud District Council Leader, Doina Cornell said:
“Thank you to everyone who has signed up to play Lucky Severn Lottery in its first year – your weekly tickets mean that good causes in the Stroud district can continue their vital work.
“One of the priorities in the Council Plan is to strengthen and support our communities so I’m delighted that the Lucky Severn Lottery has raised such a lot of money for good causes in the district.
“New causes can join at any time, so I look forward to seeing more money raised for more organisations over the next twelve months.”
If you represent a community group, you can apply to join Lucky Severn at any time. It’s free to register and participants receive personalised marketing materials and support, a page on the Lucky Severn Community Lottery website, and 50p of every £1 your supporters spend.
