Countywide memorial service – 18 September 2022

Gloucester Cathedral – 3.00pm

A Countywide Memorial Service to honour the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Gloucester Cathedral at 3.00pm on 18 September 2022, the eve of the state funeral. This is a ticketed event and all tickets have now been booked.

This service will also be live-streamed so that you can join from home. The live-stream will appear here


One minute silence - 18 September 2022

A one minute silence will be held across the UK at 20.00 hours on Sunday 18 September 2022. People can mark the silence privately in their own homes, on the street with neighbours or at community events and vigils.

Proclamation of His Majesty King Charles III – Sunday, September 11 in Stroud

More than 100 people including Deputy Lord Lieutenant Caroline Penley, district, county, parish and town councillors, Stroud’s MP, police representatives, council officers, and members of the public gathered at our Ebley Mill offices today to hear the Proclamation of King Charles III.

The funeral of Her Majesty The Queen

Join the Mayor of Dursley to watch the State Funeral of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on the 12ft screen in the Lister Hall at The Chantry Centre.  Tea and coffee will be available afterwards. 

The Lister Hall (within the Chantry Centre) will be open for the community to come together on Monday 19th September from 10am until 3pm

Bank holiday arrangements

Monday 19 September, the day of Her Majesty’s funeral, has been declared a day of national mourning and a public bank holiday, therefore all Stroud District Council offices will be closed including The Museum in the Park, The Pulse in Dursley, and Stratford Park Leisure Centre.

  • Bulky waste collections pre-booked for Monday 19 September will be collected on Tuesday 20 September
  • Garden waste collections scheduled for Monday 19 September will take place on Saturday 24 September – please ensure your bins are presented by 6am

Normal bank holiday arrangements for contacting the council during an emergency will apply – if your call is a genuine emergency, you should contact our out of hours provider on 01453 222104. You can also make a payment by ringing 0300 456 0510 or online.

The Out of Hours service will operate for council tenants who have emergency repairs. 

Many public services will be closed on Monday 19 September including Household Waste and Recycling Centres. Please check before you travel.
