"Do you have a passion for making a difference in your local community? Local elections for our parish, town and district councils will be taking place on 2 May next year, and so it's a good time to consider whether you'd like to stand for election as a councillor. We need people of all ages and from different backgrounds to fully represent local communities. When I first stood for election, I was a busy working parent and didn't know much about council structures or responsibilities. But with the support and training provided to new councillors, I've learned a huge amount and worked with others to shape the council’s priorities and budget. It's certainly possible to fit council duties around work, family and other commitments and being a councillor is a great way to support your local community and make a positive change. If you’d like to find out more then do come along to the "Be a Councillor" event on Wednesday 6 September at Ebley Mill, at 6pm for prospective parish and town councillors and 7pm for prospective district councillors (contact democratic.services@stroud.gov.uk to register your interest).

We’re now well in to the school Summer holidays and if you're running out of ideas to keep the children entertained do take a look at the huge list of free-of-charge and low cost activities on the council’s website and social media channels.

To coincide with the school holidays we recently organised a Get Out, Get Active event in Stratford Park, where 80 people enjoyed a huge range of activities at a family-friendly day out. The event was funded through the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF), and run in conjunction with the County Council, local organisations and charities in the area."

Leader, Stroud District Council
