"As we move into Autumn, organisations around the district are preparing for the onset of colder weather. Heating, the need for warm food, and steep rises in mortgage rates will envelop a whole new swathe of people into the Cost of Living Crisis. While for many it has become a chronic emergency. Citizens Advice (CA) reports an exponential growth in enquiries. ‘Enquiries’ make it seem like what one CA worker termed ‘the good old days’ - “what do I do if my neighbour’s hedge is too high?” Unfortunately, it’s more likely to be people turning up with carrier bags full of unopened bills, in crisis and unable to find anywhere else to turn.

Stroud District Council continues to work with other councils and most importantly with brilliant local partners like CA and the community hubs, to help people through these months, ensuring they get access to all available support out there. If you need help, visit our website

In happier news, the Lido has celebrated one of its best seasons since the onset of COVID. A fantastic team of employees, the lifeguards, and the marvellous Friends of the Lido have worked with the council to ensure the pool was opened for longer, was cleaner and more welcoming than ever before.

If you’re going to miss the fresh air and exercise when the Lido shuts, make sure you go along to the tennis courts in Stratford Park. By visiting the LTA website, you can take advantage of the £127,000 investment in Stratford Park’s public tennis courts, which has seen them resurfaced, new nets put up, and keyless entry via the online booking system. Call 01453 766771 if you can’t book online."
