Get started with walking rugby

Published: Tuesday, 5 June, 2018

Gloucester Rugby and Stroud District Council are teaming up for an exciting new take on the oval ball game – and all are welcome.

The Cherry and Whites and the council, which owns Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stroud, have entered a partnership to set up walking rugby for all later this month.

This form of the game is ‘no contact’ and all ages,  abilities, and genders can play.

"It suits all levels of fitness, is great for people looking to get a bit fitter, and this new sport is proving extremely popular  up and down the country, why not give it ago?," said Councillor Steve Lydon, who helped set up the sessions.

The first session, which is free-of-charge, will take place on Thursday, June 14 from 10am to 11am.

These sessions come hot on the heels of the successful launch of walking football sessions at the same leisure centre, in partnership with Gloucestershire FA – those sessions are held every Monday from 10am to 11am and cost £3.50.

To find out more, call the centre on 01453 766 771 or visit the centre. Stratford Park Leisure Centre can also be contacted on Facebook at facebook/eaStratfordPark, on Twitter @eaStratfordPark and at www.everyoneactive.com
