Press Release: 03 July 2023
Get ready to Get Out, Get Active this Sunday
Get Out, Get Active and get to Stratford Park in Stroud on Sunday 30 July and enjoy a family-friendly day out.
Get Out, Get Active is a Holiday Activities and Food Programme (also known as HAF) event which is run in conjunction with Stroud District Council, Gloucestershire County Council and local organisations and charities in the area.
The scheme is funded by the Department for Education and is intended to ensure that children are active, safe and fed throughout the summer holidays.
They’ll be plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied. Gloucester Rugby will walk families through a game of rugby, Forest Green Rovers will be running an array of activities and games, and there’ll be volleyball and Severnside Tritons swimming club inside the leisure centre.
Bloodhound Education will be bringing an LSR car – a supersonic vehicle that can travel just over 1,000mph too.
Councillor Beki Aldam, Chair of Stroud District Council Community Services and Licensing Committee said: “SDC is offering this fantastic day out for families to enjoy in the Stroud district – there will be so much to do including scrambling up and down climbing walls, enjoying a smoothie from the smoothie bike and viewing one of the world’s fastest cars: the Bloodhound LSR. There is accessible access from the car park to the event and remember to check out Museum in the Park’s indoor craft activities too.”
Cllr Trevor Hall, Vice Chair added: “Get Out, Get Active is a wonderful HAF event that will help families enjoy Stratford Park this summer. The ongoing cost-of-living crisis continues to affect families, particularly during the summer holidays. This free-of-charge event will provide children and young people with an enjoyable and healthy day out. Our Council Plan has a key focus on encouraging physical activity and sports participation throughout the district.”
The free-of-charge event will be held at Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stroud on Sunday 30 July between 10am - 2pm and is suitable for all ages. There is plenty of free-of-charge parking opposite the leisure centre and there is also cycle parking available. The bus route stops just outside of Stratford Park.
