Free cycle maps to coincide with Tour of Britain
Published: Thursday, 31 August, 2017
To coincide with the Tour of Britain coming to Gloucestershire on Saturday 9 September, Stroud District Council is offering residents and visitors the chance to pick up a free Cotswolds & Severn Vale 7-day circular cycling map.
Usually on sale for £3.99, the waterproof map will be available free of charge (while stocks last) from Stroud Tourist Information Centre located in the Subscription Rooms, from Saturday 9 to Saturday 16 September.
The 180-mile, 7-day route covers some of the finest countryside and villages in the south Cotswolds, including Nailsworth, Stroud and Berkeley. The variety of terrain ranges from the gentler slopes of the Severn Vale to the sharper escarpments of the Cotswold Hills. The route takes cyclists along country lanes, canal sides and some traffic-free routes.
Free downloadable supplements of the daily routes, accommodation, pubs and attractions are available at www.visitthecotswolds.org.uk/cycling. There are also some individual circular routes (approximately 30 miles) for those who just fancy a day out on the bike.
Sara Chardin, tourism officer at Stroud District Council, said:
"While we won’t see the Tour of Britain passing through the Stroud district this time, we wanted to maximise this opportunity to inspire people to get on their bikes and explore our beautiful area."
