Press Release:                                                1 September 2023

Extension to Stratford Park Lido season

Stratford Park Lido

Stratford Park Lido won’t close this weekend as usual, following a delayed opening this year.

Instead of closing this Sunday (September 4), the sessions at the cold water outdoor pool in will continue until September 17.

The decision by Stroud District Council and SPLC operator Everyone Active follows a delayed start to the season in June.

“We know how much the Lido is valued by the community and we want to make the most of what’s left of the Summer, so we have worked with Everyone Active to keep the Lido open until mid-September,” said SDC Community Services and Licensing Committee Chair, Councillor Beki Aldam.

“The sessions are targeted at key times for swimmers, so they can get the most out of the extra two weeks and the Lido can be run safely and effectively.”

From Monday, September 4 to Sunday, September 17, there will be sessions on:

Monday to Friday

3.15-5.15pm - Public Swim

5.30-6.30pm - Lane Swim

6.30-7.30pm - Lane Swim

Saturday and Sunday

Noon-1pm - Lane Swim

1.15-3.15pm - Public Swim

3.45-5.45pm - Public Swim

6-7pm Lane Swim

Tuesday and Thursday

7-8am - Lane Swim

8-9am - Lane Swim

They are all weather dependent.

Stratford Park Lido

The Lido, designed by FS Cutler, dates back to 1937. It needs more maintenance every year, and this year SDC and Everyone Active overcame a series of technical issues but had to push the opening date back from May 27 to June 10.

“We said then that we didn’t want swimmers to miss out on pool time, so I am really pleased we have been able to work with Everyone Active to extend the pool’s opening into mid-September,” said Community Services and Licensing Committee Vice-Chair Trevor Hall.

This year Friends of Stratford Park Lido volunteers painted the changing rooms and brightened them up with a new mural designed by South Gloucestershire & Stroud College students.

Friends Chair Jess McQuail said: “We are really delighted that the season has been extended and we look forward to enjoying the last two weeks before it closes for the end of the season. We would like to thank Stroud District Council and Everyone Active for making this happen.”
