Deadline approaching for EU Settled Status applications
Published: Tuesday, 22 June, 2021
Stroud District Council is urging those that haven’t already, to apply to the EU Settled Status Scheme.
EU citizens must apply by Wednesday 30 June or they may lose their existing rights in the UK.
The Home Office has received a total of 5.6 million applications to date and more are waiting to be approved. More than £20million of funding has been provided to organisations across the UK which support the vulnerable and hard to reach in applying to the scheme.
Those who do not apply could risk discrimination from employers and/or landlords, as well as loss of access to public services such as the NHS.
The application process is extremely simple; a valid form of identification and proof of residence in the UK is all that is needed. Those who are struggling to apply or need additional help should ask a friend or family member for help or contact the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Stroud District Council Leader Doina Cornell said:
“It is vital that all EU citizens apply to the scheme before June 30 if they want to continue living and working in the UK. Although I am pleased to see such a large number of applications, I remain concerned about those in hard to reach groups or those struggling with the application process. We want to ensure that all EU citizens are aware of how easy the process is and the help that is available.”
