Kind hearted staff at The Pulse in Dursley are hoping to help families in need by collecting donations for the Stroud District Foodbank during the festive season.

The Stroud District Council owned fitness centre has already started a collection of food, and have a couple of incentives lined up to help boost donations.

Ange Gillingham, manager at The Pulse said:

"We’ll be celebrating the switching on of Dursley’s Christmas lights on Friday 30 November by exchanging food bank gifts for a voucher for a free class or swim during December. The Stroud District Food Bank will deliver over 1,000 hampers to local people in time for Christmas and we want to encourage people to donate to such a worthy cause."

The deadline for Christmas hamper donations is Friday 14 December which will give the Foodbank time to make up and distribute the festive food parcels.

The list of items the Foodbank has requested for Christmas hampers  is:

  • tinned ham
  • Christmas biscuits
  • savoury crackers
  • fruit squash or cordial
  • boxes of chocolates
  • instant hot chocolate
  • nuts
  • bags of sweets
  • luxury crisps
  • cranberry sauce

The Pulse will continue to collect donations of food until Thursday 31 January, with all donations given in January being rewarded with `no joining fee’ on all memberships to The Pulse.
