Temporary site closure - Pyke quarry Horsley

Pyke Quarry Household Recycling Centre, near Horsley, will be temporarily closed from Monday June 4 to Friday 22 June to install new equipment and improve the site.


During the site closure all other household recycling centres will be open as normal.


 The closest alternative centres are Hempsted in Gloucester and Fosse Cross near Cirencester.

Details of the two recycling centres (tips) in the Stroud district. Both centres are operated by Gloucestershire County Council.

Opening times for both sites

9.00am - 6.15pm Monday to Sunday*. These hours will stay the same all year round.
*except Christmas Day and New Years Day
** other ad hoc closures (Advertised on recycleforgloucestershire)

These sites accept a wide variety of materials for recycling including, paper, cardboard, textiles, garden waste, plastic bottles, engine oil, vegetable oil, light bulbs (traditional and energy efficient), fluorescent tubes, beverage cartons, glass, metal, wood and timber, batteries. Coupled with this you can also take waste for landfill and rubble.

Ad hoc closures

There may be occasions when either centre may have to close at short notice, bad weather for example. Please check Recycle for Gloucestershire for the latest information before travelling. 

Book in a van, pick-up or large trailer

If you would like to take a van to either Pyke quarry or Hempsted you must book in advance. You can book online via Recycle for Gloucestershire
