Stroud District Council has begun a trial using the Council Advertising Network (CAN) to deliver advertising across its website and staff intranet.

The CAN is supplier company, formed from a network of local authorities generating revenue from appropriately sourced advertising, and helping to improve delivery of our digital services.

Objectives

  • To benefit from nationally sourced advertising income streams, to support development of our digital services.
  • To develop opportunities to offer a promotional tool for local businesses and organisations.
  • To further develop our use and understanding of digital tools and opportunities.

General principles

Advertising on the site should not significantly detract from it’s primary purpose and customer experience.

Advertising should be appropriate to our audience and adhere to our own and national standards (see policies below), including the Code of Practice on Local Government Publicity.

New advertising campaigns are subject to approval before they are placed on the Council's web site. The Council reserves the right to refuse or to remove any individual advertisement, which, in the opinion of the Council is considered inappropriate.

While all efforts are made to ensure that standards are upheld, The Council does not accept responsibility for errors, omissions or for any consequences arising when visiting third party websites when following advertising links.

The promotion of any advertisement on the Council's website should not be seen as an official endorsement or recommendation of that advertiser's products or services.

The Council is not responsible for the quality or reliability of the product or services offered within any advertisement. The Council would never knowingly run an advertisement that is misleading, offensive, untrue or fraudulent.
