Council Tax Energy Rebate - Information from Central Government

***IMPORTANT UPDATE as at 12 May 2022***

Payments have now started for eligible residents who pay council tax by direct debit.

The first payments were made yesterday (11 May 2022) for those who pay on the 8th of the month and will reach bank accounts on Friday 13 May 2022.

Further payment runs have been scheduled from the week commencing 16 May 2022 for those paying on 1st, 15th, 22nd and 28th on the month and all payments will reach bank accounts by Thursday 26 May 2022.

Over the next 10 days we will be emailing and writing to around 12,000 households who we have identified as being eligible for the payment and inviting application via the on-line portal.

The on-line portal application will go live from Monday 23 May 2022. Once the form has been submitted the verification process will take up to 2 weeks and we will contact you if we need more information to support your application

Please do not contact us about when payments will be made as this will delay our staff processing payments. We will update this page as further updates become available.

Central government announced on 3 February 2022 various schemes to assist people with the rising cost of living. This includes 80% of households receiving a £150.00 Council Tax rebate from April.

Please see the link below for the information that we have received regarding the scheme:

Discretionary funding

The council has been allocated a discretionary fund to provide support to other energy bill payers who are not eligible for the main scheme. This could include households living in property valued in bands E - H that are on income related benefits.

We are currently working on a policy and will publish details on this page when available.

Check my council tax banding

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) who set the bands on domestic properties have recently published an article for customers setting out the circumstances in which they will undertake a band review and the evidence customers need to provide.  Please see the links below:
