Improving Access to Local Government Elected Office for Disabled People
Councillors play a vital role in shaping the future of their communities and improving the quality of life of local people. We need people from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect the communities that they serve. The LGA is delivering a bespoke national campaign to encourage disabled people to find out more about becoming a councillor. This campaign, which is funded by the UK Government, is designed to increase the representation of disabled people in local government.
LGA Guide to Improving Access to Local Government Elected Office for Disabled People
Stroud District Council wants to ensure Councillors reflect the diversity of their community, particularly those with protected characteristics such as age, disability, race, gender, religion, pregnancy and maternity, or sexual orientation. We want to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to shape the decisions which affect them and the District they live in. We would welcome conversations with anyone who is thinking of standing as a Councillor who may need additional support or reasonable adjustments so that we can help to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to stand for election and undertake the role of Councillor. For further information about support available please contact democratic.services@stroud.gov.uk or phone us on 01453 766321.
