Shelf Help for Eating & Body Image

Books to support you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing

Shelf Help for Eating and Body Image is a shortlisted range of books that young people can choose from. The list has been curated by a Young Persons Social Prescriber, with contributions from the clinicians at the specialist eating disorder service in Gloucestershire, as well as other young people with lived experience of eating disorders.

Stroud District Council and Berkeley Vale Primary Care Network are working in partnership with The Cotswold Book Room to deliver this targeted book gifting project.

This project is being funded as part of our eating disorder workstream for young people with an eating problem or disorder, and young people who are struggling with body imageEach young person can order one book from the shortlist. Initially this project will run for one year.

The offer of a gifted book is open to young people (aged 14-25*) who are registered at one of the surgeries within the Stroud District

Young people receiving a book should also be receiving additional support from their GP, another health professional, or the clinical team at a specialist NHS service eg, Brownhill or CAMHS.

* For under 14’s: please contact us if you are confident that your loved one can manage the content of a book on the list with the support of a parent, legal guardian, health professional or trusted adult. We will process the order for them to receive a gifted book based on your parental judgement.

How to place a book order:

We will send the chosen book title and delivery details to the bookshop and they will process the order. 

 

Shelf Help for Eating and Body Image is part of a wider workstream exploring ways to help support young people in the Stroud District using the five ways to wellbeing to inspire project themes.
