Reading Well scheme
Receive a free book collection and an invite to join three Reading Well forums per academic year
Thanks to a partnership with Gloucestershire Library Service we were able to support the distribution of thirty Reading Well collections across local schools, during the last academic year, 2022-2023
A further five children's collections have been purchased this academic year; two of those are still available to primary schools within the Stroud District.
Reading Well helps children and families to understand and manage their mental health and wellbeing using helpful reading.
The books are all chosen and recommended by health experts, as well as people living with the conditions covered and their relatives and carers. The children’s collection contains 31 books and the young people’s collection contains 22 books. Both have a retail price around £240.00
We want to get these collections out of their boxes, onto book shelves, and into the hands of children and young people.
This project also aims to bring like-minded people together to spread the message that helpful reading can help young people to understand and manage their health and wellbeing. During the 22/23 academic year we organised three Reading Well forums. The next forum (23/24) should take place in November.
