Renewing your licence(s)

To renew your licence(s) you must fill out the renewal form and return it to us along with all of the supporting documents that we have requested from you. You can return the form and supporting documents to us either by emailing photos/scans of the documents to or by posting them to the Council Offices at Ebley Mill, marked for the attention of the licensing team. Do not send a cheque, you can pay online or the licensing team will telephone you to make a payment.

DBS Check

You may need to apply for a DBS check as part of your renewal, if so, you will need to apply online. For more information and the link to apply please click here. When you have submitted your online form you must note the reference number on your renewal application form. As detailed on your renewal form, you will also need to submit three forms of I.D. in order for us to complete the check. A full list of acceptable documents can be found here. In current circumstances, we will accept photographs of these documents.

DBS Update Service

In accordance with Stroud District Council’s policy, it is mandatory that all taxi and private hire drivers sign up to the DBS update Service.

Drivers that were licensed with Stroud District Council on or before 1st October 2021 will have until 31 December 2023 to sign up to the DBS update service. Until they are signed up, they will need to continue to apply for a new Enhanced DBS check every three years on renewal up until the deadline.

We strongly recommend that existing drivers sign up to the DBS update Service the next time they are due to complete an Enhanced DBS check application.

If drivers do not sign up to the service at this time they will be required to apply for another enhanced DBS check ahead of the 31st December 2023 deadline.

DVLA Check

We need to check your drivers licence with the DVLA every renewal.  This will tell us when your licence expires, whether you have any endorsements (or points), and if you’ve been disqualified. This service is free of charge and allows you to generate a licence 'check code' for you to share your driving record. The code is valid for 21 days and can only be used once. You will need your driving licence number and national insurance number to create a code.

You can generate a check code using the following link You will need to make a note of the check code on your renewal form. Please note that the code is case sensitive.

Renewed taxi or private hire badges and internal discs

Your badges/internal disc will be posted to you at our earliest convenience. Ahead of receiving your badges/internal disc the licensing team will email you an interim authorisation notice. If you do not have an email address we will post it to you. You can show this letter to passengers or any Officers if you are stopped and have not yet received your badges/internal disc. If you can't print the letter you can show it from your phone.
