Renewing your licence(s)
The Licensing Section will send you a renewal reminder in the post. The reminder will detail the documents that we require to complete your renewal. You must fill out the renewal form and return it to us along with all of the supporting documents that we have requested from you. You must renew your licence at least 7 working days before the end of the month.
Please note that it is your responsibility to renew your licence. If you have not received a renewal reminder from us please contact us at email@example.com
Step 4 update for renewal applications
The Licensing team are still mainly working from home. We will still send your renewal reminder in the post to you using an external postal service. You will still need to complete the form as normal and then either scan or photograph it along with any supporting documents requested and email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
You can make payment for your renewal online, please see the 'pay online' section below or we can take a telephone payment.
I don’t have use of email, how can I renew?
You can post your application form and copies of your supporting documents to the Council Offices at Ebley Mill marked for the attention of the licensing team. Do not send a cheque, you can pay online or the licensing team will telephone you to make a payment.

Instructions for paying online
- Under 'Payment Types' select Taxis and Private Hire
- Using the down arrow in the drop down list under 'Please Select a service to pay for', choose the type of application you are making e.g. 'Private Hire Driver Renewal Application 1 year' or 'Hackney Carriage Vehicle Renewal Application'
- Click on the blue select box which will bring up the correct fee.
- Enter your details in the boxes. Please ensure you enter your badge or plate number.
- At the bottom click on 'Add to List'
- Your payment should now show under 'Payment Review'
- You can add additional payments by selecting another option in the 'Please Select a service to pay for' drop down. Enter your details and click on 'Add to List'. Your additional payment(s) will now also show under 'Payment Review'
- When you have selected all payments you wish to make, click 'Pay' which will take you to a Payment Screen
- Enter your card details and click on 'Submit'
- Double check payment details and then click 'Confirm'
- Enter your email address and you will automatically receive a receipt
When the payment summary is displayed, if you do not click confirm, the payment will not go through.
You may need to apply for a DBS check as part of your renewal, if so, you will need to apply online.

When you have submitted your online form you must note the reference number on your renewal application form.
As detailed on your renewal form, you will also need to submit three forms of I.D. in order for us to complete the check. A full list of acceptable documents can be found here. In current circumstances, we will accept photographs of these documents.
You can also use this reference number to subscribe to the DBS update Service via the link https://secure.crbonline.gov.uk/crsc/apply . The DBS update service allows organisations to do a status check to see if your Certificate is still up to date which will save you time and money if you need to apply for multiple Certificates when you move from one job to another in the same workforce or if you need re-checks.
We need to check your drivers licence with the DVLA every renewal. This will tell us when your licence expires, whether you have any endorsements (or points), and if you’ve been disqualified.
You can share your driving licence details with the Licensing Authority using the following link: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
This service is free of charge and allows you to generate a licence 'check code' for you to share your driving record. The code is valid for 21 days and can only be used once. You will need your driving licence number and national insurance number to create a code.
Renewed taxi or private hire badges
There may be a short delay in issuing badges. The licensing team will email you an interim authorisation letter which will have your photo and licence expiry date. If you do not have an email address we will post it to you. You can show this letter to passengers or any Officers if you are stopped and have not yet received your badge. If you can't print the letter you can show it from your phone.
Renewed vehicle internal disc
There may be a short delay in issuing internal discs or external plates at this time. Instead the licensing team will email you an interim authorisation letter which will have your vehicle details and licence expiry date. If you do not have an email address the team will post it to you. You can show this letter to passengers or any Officers if you are stopped and have not yet received your internal disc or external plate. If you can't print the letter you can show it from your phone.
I do not want to renew my licence or wish to surrender my licence
Email the licensing team on email@example.com and we will cancel your renewal or surrender your licence as well as arrange for any refunds for plate deposits or remaining months that may be due. Refunds will be made to your bank account so you will need to provide the licensing team with your bank details.
