Licensed Premises That Must Close

 

The Regulations provide that hospitality venues, such as cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs must close for consumption of food and drink on the premises. This includes consumption on areas adjacent to the premises where seating is made available for customers or which they habitually use.

 

Exemptions from Restrictions for Food and Drink Consumed Off the Premises

Food and drink (including alcohol) may be provided for consumption off the premises, subject to specific requirements outlined below and provided it is within the hours and conditions of the relevant Premises Licence. Where premises are providing food and drink for consumption off the premises they should have in place procedures and precautions to prevent transmission of the Coronavirus.

 

Takeaway Food or drink (No alcohol)

  • Between the hours of 05:00 and 22:00 a premises may sell food or drink for take-away, and the customer can enter the premises to collect the food or drink.

 

  • After 22:00 and until 05:00 the next morning, premises may only provide food and drink for takeaway if it is pre-ordered and then either delivered to, or collected by, the customer or the sale is made at a drive-thru facility. The customer must not enter the premises for the pre-ordered collection or vacate their vehicle for the drive thru.

 

Takeaway Alcohol

  • A premises may make off sales of alcohol at any time permitted by their premises licence but the sale must be pre-ordered and then either delivered to, or collected by the customer, or the sale is made at a drive-thru facility. The customer must not enter the premises for the pre-ordered collection or vacate their vehicle for the drive thru.

 

Off Licences and Licensed Shops Selling Alcohol (Including Breweries)

 

Off licences and other licensed shops making off sales of alcohol are not restricted by any of the above as they are not a business that is required to close. However, they are still subject to their current Premises Licence hours and conditions and should have in place procedures and precautions to prevent transmission of the Coronavirus.
