The Stroud District is located within Gloucestershire, one of the most picturesque counties in England. The District possesses all the qualities and more you would expect from such an area - a majestic Cotswold landscape, bustling market towns, excellent schools and a broad range of housing. There is a vibrancy in the district that is difficult to beat.
One of the District's greatest strengths is its people. Over many generations, the District has attracted a wide mix of musicians, poets, artists, thespians, craftspeople and entrepreneurs which add to the area's 'can do' culture.
At Stroud District Council we are looking to build upon this culture, by attracting a new mix of creative thinkers, innovators, communicators and project drivers.
Employment Opportunities
The District is going through a substantial period of change and investment, much of which focuses upon culture, property and regeneration. Just a flavour:
- Stroud Valleys Artspace - one of the largest affordable artist workspace projects in the South West
- The regeneration of rural communities, market towns and employment areas
- The proposed restoration of the Cotswold Canal - eventually linking the River Severn to the Thames
Standing still is just not an option. We are interested in talking to people with knowledge and experience in:
- Culture - strategic development, project planning and external funding
- Property - asset management and development surveying
- Regeneration - community inclusion and development, business development, project delivery and urban design
Training and career development
We are committed to the development of our staff and have been awarded the Investor in People (IIP) accreditation. IIP is a national standard, which sets out a good level of practice for the training and development of people to achieve organisational goals.
All new starters also go through a comprehensive induction programme, with regular performance reviews. We recognise that our employees are our greatest asset and actively support professional career development.
Employment policies and benefits
We have a range of family friendly and flexible working policies promoting a healthy work-life balance. Our Healthy Workplace Scheme is designed to encourage staff to adopt and sustain a healthy lifestyle. The scheme is voluntary and involves workshops on healthy eating, exercise and stress management in addition to staff having the opportunity of being assigned to a 'lifestyle leader' who will help them set and achieve their lifestyle and fitness goals. It's also a good opportunity to meet and socialise with colleagues across the council.
At Stroud we recognise that staff work best when they have live fulfilled and happy lives.
Employees benefit from a generous final salary pension scheme, 20 days annual leave (plus 4 additional days between Christmas and New Year) rising to 25 days (+4) after 5 years local Government service. We will also pay annual subscription fees to appropriate professional bodies and offer a generous relocation scheme.
