Don't miss SECRET ARTIST 2012 (17 & 18 November)

Release Date: 31 October 2012

Shhhh ..... can you keep a secret?

Artists from near and far are busy preparing work for an unusual art exhibition which will see their work displayed in secret...

Taking place at The Museum in the Park, Stroud, on 17 and 18 November, 'Secret Artist' is an eclectic and dazzling display of postcard-sized art. Back by popular demand, this special event aims to raise much-needed funds for the Museum's Walled Garden Project, an exciting initiative to open up and transform the magical, forgotten garden hidden behind the Museum in the historic grounds of Stratford Park. A share of any proceeds will also go towards a new Museum Friends bursary fund to support young art students and future Artist Residencies.

The Secret Artist weekend offers everyone a fun chance to acquire an affordable, original work of art, while at the same time supporting their local Museum and Art College. Many talented local professional artists are taking part, as are famous names including Nick Park CBE and inventor Sir James Dyson. Undiscovered talent has a chance to shine too, as art students currently studying at Stroud School of Art (South Gloucestershire & Stroud College) will also have their work on show.

The A5 postcards are displayed anonymously and signed only on the reverse, so that the artist's identity remains a secret until after the cards are collected and their signatures are revealed. Each postcard also has a unique number hidden on the back. Visitors are invited to come along on 17 and 18 November and buy Secret Artist tickets before they run out (£15 each), which also have unique numbers. After the exhibition ends, ticket numbers are matched to postcard numbers and then, on or after the weekend of 24 and 25 November, buyers can collect their Secret Art or have it sent to them by post.

"This eccentric fundraiser will get you guessing and make you smile!" said Ann Taylor from the Museum." The sheer talent and diversity of artist's work on display will be amazing too, and we are so grateful to all the artists taking part. Do save the dates, come along, take a chance and see what happens! You could acquire are real collectors' item, like Shaun the Sheep!"

Professional artists who'd like to add their name to the cause can email museum@stroud.gov.uk for further details.

'Secret Artist 2012' is run by the Museum and Museum Friends in collaboration with Stroud School of Art (South Gloucestershire & Stroud College). It is supported by Creative Picture Framing, Cirencester.
