'Mapping our Place'
BIG DRAW WEEKEND at The Museum in the Park, 13 & 14 October 2012
Join a creative community collaboration with Stroud School of Art & local artists!
The Big Draw is a national event aimed at encouraging absolutely everyone to have a go at drawing.
The theme this year at Stroud's Museum in the Park is 'Mapping'.
On Saturday 13 October, you are invited to help create a 2D collaged map to celebrate local and everyday heritage. The idea is to chart a sense of place. As inspiration we will use archival maps of Stroud District kindly provided by Gloucestershire Archives and objects from the Museum. You might draw your house or garden, your office or school, shops, a local view, a Roman artefact or other object found in the Museum collection, things from now and things from the past and attach them to the 'map'. You can draw from memory or bring a photograph. Local birds and flowers might form a border. Together, with the help of students and staff from Stroud School of Art, we will build a very special picture of Stroud district.
On Sunday 14 October, we will be creating a giant map in 3D. Join local artist Alison Cockcroft and use drawing and paper pop up tricks to create a magical world inspired by the enchanted realms of our imaginations.
Do come and help with this exciting project and add your bit. Drop in for five minutes or stay all day, bring friends and family and have fun!
