Making A Planning Application

There are a number of ways you can submit a planning application to our Development Control Service.

  1. By post to Stroud District Council, Ebley Mill, Stroud, GL5 4UB. Downloadable forms are available here.
  2. By email to planning@stroud.gov.uk (however you will need to send a cheque to cover the application fee as you won't have a reference number of our pay on-line service)
  3. Use the planning portal and then pay on-line using the reference number given to you by the portal. This is our preferred route for all electronic applications.

A short guide to making a householder planning application can be found here:

How does the Planning Portal Work?

The Planning Inspectorate, an arm of Central Government, runs the Planning Portal. It allows planning professionals and members of the public to complete the necessary application forms, attach drawings and an Ordnance Survey map. This information is then packaged up and sent to us as an application. To use the system you need to register. This is a simple and unobtrusive process that ensures that you can monitor your application through the submission process. It is particularly useful for planning professionals as it retains your business details, making subsequent applications simpler to handle.

The Planning Portal does not handle the payment side of the application, and you will therefore be passed back to our payments system. If for any reason this fails, you can reach the payment page here. You will need to make a note of their reference number, as you will need it when paying us.

The Portal has excellent help pages that will assist you with all stages of the planning process. Visit the Planning Portal help pages
